Café Fatal – The local shabby-chic cafe
Perfect for: Brunch with the whole posse
Café Fatal seems to be a random mix of a canteen, an old German tavern and a cult pub. And so is the crowd, which consist of students, families, yuppies with their computers, prosecco girls and artists. The big room is furnished in a motley and amusing manner, with obviously purposely ironic elements of a traditionally Franconian tavern. On the other hand Café Fatal shines with its beautiful outside area. Green Ivy makes its way up the red brick walls and the cozy beach chairs offer the perfect shelter from crisp spring wind.
Similarly random as the interior is the menu. You find classic bar snacks such as baguettes and egg & ham noodles, a choice of large breakfast platters, but also vegetarian and vegan options. Particularly popular is the breakfast, which is served until 3 pm. The breakfast variations come with some cute names like “sex and the city” for the prosecco breakfast or “Tatort” for a 3-course menu which consists of an espresso, a cigarette and a shot. The choices are big enough and the portions are big. Definitely the highlight is the bread which comes with the breakfast. They get it from Nurnberg’s best bakery ”Hildes Backwut“. Because of the big tables this place is ideal for meeting up with a big group of friends for brunch.
It seems like it never gets quiet in the shabby café. When the last people finish their breakfast at the weekend around 3 pm the first coffee drinkers have arrived already. From 6 pm the dinner business is on. Because the kitchen opens until late, the hungry night owls keep coming in. Among the homogeneous majority of the breakfast cafes in the city centre, the Café Fatal stands out in a refreshing different way.
